Don was born and reared on a livestock and grain farm between Moundville and Nevada, Missouri | |
1959 | Graduated from Nevada, Missouri High School Joined the Navy when 17 in fall after farming with father in summer. |
1962 | Started college at Texas A & I, Kingsville, Texas while in Navy Got early out to attend college full-time |
1964 | Married Mary Gilmore from Lebanon, Missouri. Her father was a small livestock farmer |
1966 | Graduated from Kansas State University with BS in Agriculture Education Joined Allied Chemical Corporation as fieldman for Northeast Kansas selling fertilizer and ag chemicals plus servicing and establishing independent dealers. Lived in Lawrence, Kansas |
1968 | Allied Chemical Corp. promoted Don to Sales Supervisor over Pacific Northwest (Idaho, Oregon and Washington). Lived near Portland, Oregon |
1970 | Due to his father's health, he returned to midwest with Dempster Industries as Territorial Sales Manager over Northern Missouri, Eastern Iowa, Western Illinois and Southwest Minnesota selling pesticide and fertilizer equipment plus rural water systems. Dempster is one of the few windmill manufacturers. He lived in Kirksville, Missouri |
1972 | Due to excessive traveling and desire to be with his wife and daughters more, Don resigned and joined USDA-ASCS. In November of '72, Don was hired as County Executive Director of Boone County ASCS. Mary earned her real estate Broker's license and joined Jacobs Realty. |
1973 | Don earned his real estate brokers license |
1976 | Owned and operated a small grain crop farm southeast of Columbia from 1976 to 1984 |
1980 | Mary and Don starting owning and managing rental property and formed Emery Management in 1982 |
1984 | Mary joined Boone Realty Corporation and managed over 500 apartments and commercial properties |
1986 | Don joined Boone Realty which later purchased RE/MAX agency for Columbia |
1994 | Don applied for and received early retirement after 22 years as Boone County ASCS County Executive Director. (26 years total of Governmental Service.) |
2002 | Don and Mary sold their interest in the management company. |
